Jasmine “Jaz” Rivera has been part of the York community for over 30 years. Her parents moved to York from New Jersey, where Jasmine was born, seeking better jobs and housing and a more stable community. Jaz found a home in York, where she realized her potential. She has raised her three children here. She’s a former York County 911 dispatcher and roller derby blocker. She’s been an auto mechanic for over 20 years and a small business owner running her own auto repair business for the last 12 years.
Jasmine discovered she liked working on cars, which led her to work as a self-taught auto mechanic. She loves the troubleshooting aspect of diagnosing, and then fixing, problems. She also realized she could help people while making a living. She knows the importance of a car. She understands being without one disrupts a person’s way of living. In Jasmine’s world, no car means one can’t get the kids to school, can’t get to the grocery store or even get to work for the day. Something as simple as a broken vehicle impacts the community so directly that Jasmine considers it her duty to help keep people on the road.
Jasmine believes her life experiences have made her stronger and help her understand the struggles of everyday citizens in the 95th district. Working families and single moms like Jasmine often don’t feel they have their voices heard. They see their children trapped in failing schools because of where they live, with few to no options available. They see rising property taxes that affect renters and owners. They also see previously incarcerated family members now struggling to integrate once more into society. As State Representative, Jaz will be a voice for this community and work towards solutions. Not the same old political rhetoric, but real world solutions that improve the lives of real people.
She understands from her own life there are ups and downs, but also knows it is crucial for people to strive to keep moving forward. Self-reliance, persistence and common sense have been an important part of Jasmine’s life, and she will represent her constituents with that in mind. She also knows helping hands can do a great deal, and she believes it is important to help people who are trying to help themselves.
Being in business has enabled Jaz to build important relationships within the community. She is more than a mechanic. She has become the listener, the helping hand and, most importantly, the call people make when they need solutions.
Jaz represents a new era for the 95th and she knows York deserves better. She’s bringing a new attitude and working tirelessly to reach out to people of all political persuasions. York is excited to vote for a candidate they’ve known for years. They know Jaz and they know her commitment to the community.
It’s people, not politics, that drive Jasmine Rivera. She will be a new, powerful voice in Harrisburg who works for the improvement of everyone in the 95th State Legislative District.
